About this calculator
This semester calculator is for courses where two term grades make up the coursework portion and a final exam contributes a separate percentage. It first averages the two term grades, then applies the final exam weight.
How to use it
- Enter your first term or quarter grade.
- Enter your second term or quarter grade.
- Enter your final exam score and the percentage weight of the exam.
How the semester grade is calculated
Semester grade = average term grade × (1 − exam weight) + final exam score × exam weight
For example, term grades of 74% and 81% average to 77.5%. If the final exam is worth 20%, the coursework average contributes 80% of the semester result and the exam contributes the remaining 20%.
