About this calculator
This is a points-based grade calculator. It adds all points earned, divides them by all points possible, and converts the result to a percentage. Use the Weighted Grade Calculator instead if your syllabus gives assignments or categories different percentage weights.
How to use it
- Add each assignment, quiz, test or project you want to include.
- Enter the points you earned and the points possible for each item.
- Read your current percentage grade from the combined point totals.
Points-based grade formula
Current grade % = total points earned ÷ total points possible × 100
For example, 87 points earned out of 100 possible is an 87% grade. If you later add a 45 out of 50 test, the calculator uses 132 points earned out of 150 possible, giving 88% overall.
When not to use this calculator
If homework is worth 20% of your course, tests 50%, and a final exam 30%, those are weighted categories rather than equal points. Use the Weighted Grade Calculator for that grading system.
